Kat had come out here since it was a nice open area, she commanded Fluffy to keep his distance and she saw him slink off under a tree at the edge of the sand. the wind shifted her hair softly as she let out a nervous breath holding the staff she had commissioned to be made with the blue sapphire set at the top of it. She had practice the motions without the staff and spoke the words dozens of times over and over to make sure she had them just right. She could practice forever, but at some point she had to try. stepping out into the middle of the beach looking up at the night sky whispering for luck.*
*with a steadying breath Kat began to swing the staff to some silent rhythm only she could hear, that music that existed in her soul that was always there, she softly spoke the words of evocation, the staff in one hand as she spun, the wind picking up as she rose in the air, the sand forming a billowing pillar beneath her feet the air rippled with a blue energy, as the jewel glowed. she twirled it high above her head before slamming it down into the sand as she hit the ground sand blowing out across the beach, she held her breath and waited.
glyphs glowed blue in the sand, bright in the starlight. she thrust the staff high up into the night sky the glyphs shooting upward and disappearing. Kat watching breathing heavily her body glowing with power, her eyes scanned the skies. praying that the ritual had worked. then in the silence, she heard the whump, whump of massive wings a great shadow began to descend on the beach and her heart raced as a truly massive bird, the only other thing she had seen this large was a dragon. The great bird swept along the beach and landed proudly sending up clouds of sand, Kat shielded her eyes as it settled and looked up at the creature, its plumage was stunning, reds and greens and blues, intelligent yellow eyes peered down at her over a wicked beak, sharp claws that could easily lift a horse dug great furrows into the sand.* Mighty Roc, I am Katrina Starfyre, Imperial Princess of Paradox I have summoned you to be my companion in battle, do you accept. *she said in her most commanding voice. the Roc looked at her as though gauging her worth. she kept her gaze steady, the Roc then bowed its huge head, spreading its wings as it did so. Kat smiled and pressed her forehead to the birds.* Thank you.
With some help she clambered up onto the Roc's back its feathers as big as her on its wings, she settled, whispering a word and her staff shrank into something more like a wand she could tuck into her boot.* Fly my friend. *she called to the Roc and with a massive sweep of its wings, they were airborne. Kat's breath left her for a moment as she clung to the feathers, the ground falling away under them. she couldn't help but laugh at the sensation as the Roc banked high in the air, she was lost in the sensation and completely unaware of anyone else nearby.
She could feel the bond growing with each sweep of its wings.* Volaris, *she said getting the impression of its name in her mind, the continued to soar high above the water, circling and diving which made her loose her breath as she did her best not to scream as Volaris dove toward the water before skimming along the waves kicking up spray in his wake.*
Kat could have stayed up there forever, but at last she asked her new companion to return to the beach, he swept low along the ocean before landing once more in a blast of wind and sand. She slid from his back onto the sand, pressing her head to his once more as he bowed.* Thank you my friend. *she whispered softly a smile on her face she watched the great bird take flight and disappear into the night sky, she had done it, this was but one of the creatures she was now capable of summoning to her side.
